The rural Hecla area provides a glorious haven near GREAT hunting spots for deer, pheasant, waterfowl, wild
turkey, fishing, etc, and is within just a few miles from the Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge. Sand Lake
NWR is listed as one of the top 15 birding sites in the country and was a popular spot of President Teddy
Roosevelt's hunting trips
The Hecla area also features a myriad of walk-in areas, dedicated for hunting and trapping. In addition to the
walk-in areas, The Lamport House has access to thousands of paid guided, unguided, and semi-guided
hunting land.
Another asset The Lamport House possesses is an area for cleaning birds and an indoors area where dog
kennels can be kept. And, only a block off of Hecla's Main Street, it is within walking distance to local business
such as Jo's Schoolhouse Cafe (featuring delicious and comforting home-cooked meals - with extended hours
